Hydration – A Solution to Feeling Better
As we move into warmer months, hydration matters and it can be the best solution to feeling better. This post is not about hemp protein powder, hemp flour, or hemp hearts. This message isn’t about telling you what hemp seeds taste like; or the benefits of hemp powder; or hemp heart nutrition; this blog is dedicated to water and staying hydrated. You will find answers and information about hemp throughout our website and in our other blog posts so explore our other pages to learn more about hemp.
Hydration Matters and it May Be Your Solution to Feeling Better
Eating better is a journey—and feeling better is the reward. But health isn’t just about food or superfoods like hemp seeds. One of the simplest and most essential things you can do for your well-being is to drink enough water.
Most people don’t drink enough water, and as summer heats up, staying hydrated becomes even more critical. Often, the solution to feeling better can simply be to drink more water. Warm weather activities like golfing, yard work, hiking, or just relaxing with a cold beer by the lake or on your front porch, can dehydrate you quickly. (Yes, I know a cold beer is quite refreshing on a hot day… but keep in mind, alcohol is dehydrating – remember to include water.) As temperatures rise, so does your body’s need for water.
On a recent road trip through National and State Parks, especially in Arizona and Texas, I noticed trailhead signs warning hikers to carry plenty of water—even on easy trails. Some signs even stated, “Heat can kill.” It might sound dramatic, but heat stroke is a real danger. Often, symptoms like fatigue or a nagging headache are simply signs of dehydration; and the solution to feeling better is to hydrate.

The Importance of Enough Water
How Much Water Should You be Drinking?
The old “8 glasses a day” rule is a decent starting point, but hydration needs vary. Factors like activity level, environment, and life stage (e.g., pregnancy or nursing) all affect how much water you should be drinking. According to the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine:
- Men should aim for about 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) daily
- Women should aim for about 11.5 cups (2.7 liters)
If you’re highly active or working in hot environments, you’ll need more.
When my son was a competitive swimmer training for several hours each day, 2 times a day, it took a gallon of milk, a gallon of orange juice, and in fact multiple sports drinks daily along with water to keep him hydrated! Thank goodness I’m not financially responsible for that today, that would translates to $15 to $20 per day just in hydration needs, which doesn’t include the grocery bill for healthy foods. He required in excess of 4,500 to 6000 calories a day to maintain what he burned up during swim practice. By the way, swimming take a lot of fluids from your body. Since you’re not sweating, people sometimes disregard the need to hydrate.
Smart Hydration Tips – A Solution to Feeling Better
Try to keep in mind that not all liquids hydrate equally. Alcohol, sodas, and caffeinated drinks can dehydrate you. Always listen to your body—thirst, light-headedness, or dry mouth are signs you need more water.
Here are some creative ways to boost hydration:
- Watermelon juice – My roofer brother swears by it. He eats it all day or mashes it up to drink straight—no blender needed.

- Infused water – Try adding mint, cucumber, strawberries, or lemon slices. Refreshing and flavorful!
- Refrigerate infused water and consume lemon water within 1–2 days. Take note, at room temperature, infused water can spoil from bacteria in just a few hours.

Hydration isn’t complicated—but it is essential. Make water a daily habit and enjoy the benefits of feeling clearer, stronger, and more energized, especially during the summer heat. Enjoy your summer!
